Outthink Wildfire: Oregon’s Approach
This year, NFPA recently announced a wildfire policy initiative to Outthink Wildfire. This is a call to end the destruction of communities by wildfire in 30 years. It is based on five tenets:
1 Ignition resistant construction for buildings in the WUI,
2 Use of Current codes/standards and sound land use practices in the WUI,
3 Safe and effective fire operations in the WUI
4 Vegetative fuel management resources
5 Informed public motivated to take action
